Competition Brief:
Participants are to design a Tiny House for 2 people that would provide a comfortable living accommodation. The design and concept of the house should be innovative, creative and sustainable. The relation between the house's interiors and exterior surroundings should be taken into consideration. The proposed solution should be based on a strong concept. The area of the house must not exceed 250 sq. ft. Adaptability is a vital aspect for all the designs. The house should respond to the ever-changing needs of its users and the site context it
sits in. The designed solution may not be limited to a site, but it can be designed as a versatile module or to be mobile. The participants would be needed to provide a justification for the same. The interior spaces should include: Living Area | Sleeping Area for 2 | Cooking and Dining Area | Toilet | Workspace | Any other aspect the participant wishes to add.
Design Concept:
As the work from home paradigm continues shifting, H House fills the need for a site driven design where users offset their screen time with a demanding natural connection. Its primary focus is for its inhabitant to see and feel the impacts of the world around them, as well as their impact on it. Design choices, building systems, and construction methods aim to reduce energy, waste, consumption, material possessions and create an indelible bond to the land, weather, and climate. The construction involves a set of prefabricated components that can be shipped in a single package and assembled into a floating box between two rammed earth walls that the user helps to build. The earthen material for the walls is sourced locally, allowing each unit to be unique as well as reflective of the site on which it is built. These walls are the metaphorical and physical connection of our "pre-fab" digital lives down to the natural environment we occupy. Passive solar strategies appropriately maximize and minimize solar gain throughout the year while high-tech integrated systems blend rugged off grid living with the ease and comfort of our modern lives. H House is not simply a design solution, it is a psychological transformation to existing symbiotically with the natural space around us.
